Went to the Ise Shrine yesterday with Yu and prayed my little heart out for the New Year. It was packed the the max with people. We also did purikura pictures (I have so many I want to scan and post). It is the school girl version of the photobooth - Japan style and I dig it.
Yu just got engaged this week...congratulations girl!

Bauhaus Mask
ever since I saw this artist at my local Tsu Art Museum, can't stop thinking about it. Female artist Ayumi Ohashi started doing magazine illustrations when she was in college...only college...for 平凡パンチ (The Magazine for Men) from 1964-1972. I wanted all of them! I love the simple and honest nature.
I have always been interested in Decorative Arts, and this museum is the first place I will haunt once I drop my bag. This exhibit on the unmatchable MADELEINE VIONNET took my breath.
She is best known as the inventor of the bias cut - absolute genius. With the invention of the bias cut in the 1920’s Madeleine Vionnet became a household name in the world of Haute Couture. Many of Madeleine Vionnets designs are highly influenced by Greek art, flowing garments that do not constrict the wearer but flow beautifully around the body. She designed for some of the biggest stars of the time such as Greta Garbo and Katharine Hepburn. She was once quoted as saying ‘when a woman smiles, then her dress should smile too’.
Every year in Taiji, from September to March, dolphins are mercilessly slaughtered.
I just watched an excellent movie, The Cove, which exposes the slaughter of more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises in Taiji, Japan every year, and how their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan and other parts of Asia, often labeled as whale meat. The majority of the world is not aware this is happening as the Taiji cove is blocked off from the public.
The film has not and will never be released in Japan.
